Birth Family is Still Family

Those of you who know me in real life - or have been reading long - know how important respect for birth families is.  And how important openness is.

Its a subject I think most adoptive families struggle with at some point in the adoption process.

But birth family is still family.

  1. So true! We are always trying to find that place of being family with the birth family. It has led to some really beautiful situations, especially one with a former foster daughter whose parents we are still in contact with. They have gotten off of drugs and are doing a beautiful job raising her. So proud to call them friends.

  2. Thank you for this! I am an adoptive mother and a social worker who works with parents who have had their parental rights terminated. It's so important to acknowledge birth family. It helps heal the kids AND the birth parents left behind.

  3. This is so true! I am a birth mom and my son I put up for adoption many years ago has found me and my family! His adoptive parents have excepted all of us as if we were always their family. It has truly been an amazing journey. More than I can ask for after all these years, it has truly been a blessing.
